
In 2005 Lars Thomsen received the Danish Engineering Society High-Tech Award for the development of a fully automated biological warfare agent detection chip. The award was given to Lars Thomsen although he didnt hold an engineering degree but had an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in biology/biophysics. The price come with a 100.000 DKK personal award and was presented by Mr. Haldor Topsoe – the highly respected founder of the Haldor Topsoe company.
The system had at this point been successfully tested in military field trials in Denmark and UK (Porton Down, DSTL)
